Head of People

We’re looking for a Head of People who can pioneer our ambitious growth plans by driving force behind our global people strategy. We already have awesome teams in the UK, US, Australia and Spain but with big plans for the next few years, we need someone who knows what it takes to scale well and remain future proof, constantly prioritising our people and enhancing organisational productivity, whilst being comfortable moving at pace.

You’ll wear a lot of hats in this role – recruitment, retention, performance, engagement – but underpinning it all we’re looking for someone who can bring our culture and values to life. This means precise execution of the HR process but with a hefty dose of start-up pragmatism and a ton of personality, focusing on the things that will move us forward and serving as a trusted confidant to those across the business. By committing to the constant betterment of Wagestream’s world class team, you will directly impact our ability to deliver our mission.

 

Who will you be working with?

  • Reporting to our CFO, you’ll be part of our Global Operations team, a cross functional team that works across all territories covering People, Finance, Legal and Compliance
  • This role will also work closely with our Co-Founders and Team Leads switching modes between confident, challenger, project manager and supporting ear.
  • You’ll have line manager responsibility for two fantastic direct reports, our People Manager and Senior Talent Acquisition Manager
  • But…the People team is hands-on with every territory, every team and every individual at Wagestream – so really there’s no-one in the business you won’t work with!

Requirements

Who are you?

  • You’ve worked in a People Leadership role before, ideally at a Series B-C start-up and with teams upwards of 150 people
  • You understand and have experience in employment legislation and HR nuance across international markets (we also have teams in the US, Australia and Spain)
  • You intuitively build trust, forging strong relationships regardless of seniority or role AND build this dynamic into organisational culture
  • You have strong interpersonal and communication skills and can intuitively switch modes; presenting with humour at all company meetings; following tight compliance procedure in written documentation; supporting individuals in potentially difficult 1:1 discussion
  • You’re excellent at prioritisation – providing support and advice to employees and managers on all HR and ER related matter in a professional and timely manner but never losing sight of your own task list.
  • You’ve introduced successful programmes in areas such as L&D and DEI and can point to a measurable impact that drove both productivity and enjoyment across an organisation
  • You can partner, support and challenge managers across all functions to create a culture of high performance; including objective setting, appraisals and development
  • You create, communicate and evolve policy, frameworks and practices to ensure people activities are executed smoothly throughout the employee lifecycle
  • You have a high level of autonomy and accountability – thriving in ambiguity is second nature.

Salary

We know that money is only one part of package, but still important, so for this role we have a starting salary of £70k and increasing depending on experience & suitability. (And of course everyone gets a piece of the pie with our equity options!)
